Visual Information Specialist

Supports public outreach and visitor engagement through multi-media platforms and projects, including the park website, social media, and visual materials such as photographs, illustrations, signs, videos, maps, and publications. Provides visual and audio production services to all park divisions using nationally established guidelines. Work includes planning the visual aspects of such visual materials as photographs, illustrations, diagrams, graphs, objects, slides, and charts used in pamphlets, live or video recorded speeches or lectures, and other means of communication such as web content where the general format and specific themes to be illustrated are predetermined. As a graphic designer, must be an expert in the use of the latest design and desktop publishing software and hardware. In addition, must be able to utilize material (that may be electronic) provided by the customer. More specifically, whether in print or media, must select fonts, determine the hierarchy of headings, follow style manuals, determine size, create layouts, create illustrations, determine how illustrations, photography or other graphic materials will be used, select graphic materials, create style sheets, prepare proofs, prepare digital media for final production, recommend materials to be used, and check proofs if requested. Area Information:
Located in the Pocono Mountains, just 80 miles west of New York City and 100 miles north of Philadelphia, the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area attracts over 5-million visitors each year. The 70,000-acre park also includes the Middle Delaware National Scenic and Recreation Area and 26 miles of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. Nearby towns of Stroudsburg, PA, Port Jervis, NY, and Newton, NJ provide all services, including K-12 school, college, medical services and other community needs. Additionally, several smaller communities are adjacent to the park. Summers and winters are generally mild with average summer temperatures about 80 degrees, with some humidity, and average winter temperatures about 30 degrees. To qualify for this position at the GS-9 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as:
planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other artwork, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of at least two years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent. Major study - commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
